Grace Essick

Mrs. Dorothy “Grace” Lookabill Essick, 89, passed away on July 25, 2021, at Forsyth Medical Center. Grace was born on August 26, 1931, to Jacob Patterson Lookabill and Ruth Belle Miller Lookabill in Watauga County. She graduated from Walkertown High School. Grace retired from Hanes Knitting with 41 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed crocheting, canning, and baking Christmas cookies. Always putting others first, she cared for family, friends, and neighbors. Her table was always full, and she made sure no one ever left hungry. In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by sisters, Rachel, Gladys, Betty, and Martha, as well as brothers, Junior and Buddy. Surviving are her sons, Donald Able, Roger Essick, and Kenneth Essick; sisters, Linda Fulk and Mary Handy (Jerry); grandchildren, Kristina Able and Amanda Able; great grandchildren, Jaden Wharton, Jackson Brewer, and Nora Brewer; nieces and nephews; and many loving friends. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown with Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, July 28th at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
