Grace Wood Durie

Mrs. Grace Wood Durie, 92, of Winston-Salem, died Friday, February 20, 2009 at Springwood Care Center. She was born October 6, 1916 in Surry County to William H. and Vallie Nance Wood. Mrs. Durie was a longtime member of Oaklawn Baptist Church where she enjoyed her church family. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 42 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl S. Durie, a sister, Rose W. Neal and seven brothers. Surviving are two nieces, Gale Herter of Catawba County and Pat Hammack of Winston-Salem and a host of great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, February 23, 2009 at Oaklawn Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Haley, Rev. James Saul, Rev. Dalton King and Rev. Paul Riggs officiating. Entombment will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
