Gloria Flynn Lawson

Mrs. Gloria Jean Flynn Lawson, 66, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born January 11, 1946 in Forsyth County to Alberta Childress and John Henry Flynn. Mrs. Lawson was known as ""The Hat Lady"". She was a member of Freeman Street Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and sung various solo parts. She retired from Southern Bell after 32 years of service in 1998. She volunteered at several agencies, Battered Women, United Way, Cancer Society and was a member of Salem Council Telephone Pioneers for 31 years. Gloria will always be remembered for her ability to make friends and she was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She always had a smile on her face and spoke to everyone. Surviving are one son, James Paul Lawson (Lilli) of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Laura Lawson Hudson (Tim) of Winston-Salem, Pamela Lawson of Portsmith, VA; four grandchildren, Justen Price, Megan Lawson, Vivian Lawson, Toby Lawson; two sisters, Vicky Needham (Wyatt) of Pinnacle, Sally Pelham of Sweet Home, OR. A funeral service will be conducted 2:30pm Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Bob Whitaker, bro. Jeff Boles, and bro. Danny Hauser officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Friday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Derrick L. Davis Cancer Center of Forsyth County and Hospice of Forsyth County and all the angels that helped out during her illness.
