Gloria Dean Linville Key passed away on May 17, 2024 at Brookridge Skilled Nursing Care after a period of declining health. She was born on September 11, 1931, in Surry County, the oldest of five to the late Oscar H. and Lillian Holyfield Linville. Gloria was a faithful and dedicated member of Rosemont Baptist Church. She sang in the choir and was a member of the Faith Bible Class. She also participated in the Pantry Ministry as long as her health permitted. Gloria was a loving mother and a wonderful country cook. She enjoyed nurturing and spoiling her grandchildren, and loved looking at books with her great grandchildren at her bedside. She is survived by her sons, Raymond (Gail), Van (Robin) and Jimmy; her grandchildren, Beth (Jonathan) Johnson, Kimberly (Jeremy) Ray, David Key (Taylor), Justin Sams, Travis Key (Francesca), and Natalie Key; great-grandchildren, Silas and Della Johnson, Dorothy Ray, and Brightly and Holly Key; and a brother, Ralph (Diane) Linville. Gloria graduated from Dobson High School in 1950 and married Raymond H. Key, Sr. in 1952. She was preceded in death by Raymond in 1995; great-granddaughter, Libby Key Ray; daughter-in-law, Julia; brothers, Alfred and Olin Linville; and a sister, Lola Vestal. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel from 6:00pm - 8:00pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. A graveside service will be held at Parklawn Memorial Park at 11am on Thursday, May 23, 2024. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gloria’s memory to Amedisys Hospice Care, 2975 Crouse Lane, Burlington, NC 27215. The family would like to thank April Snyder-Roberts and Bobbie Joyce from Amedisys Hospice for their loving care during Gloria’s last days.
