Gloria Lee Gardner Buchanan

Gloria Buchanan, of Clemmons, died at 3:45 Saturday morning, Nov. 5th, at Baptist Hospital from complications of COPD. She was born in Danville, VA, to John Rodwell Gardner and his wife, Rebekah Elizabeth Webb Gardner. She attended Longwood College in Farmville, VA, graduating in 1959 with a degree in Secondary Education. She worked briefly in Yadkin County, NC, where she met her husband, Robert Paul Buchanan, Jr. They eventually settled in Winston-Salem. After moving there, she worked for many years at Old Salem in several capacities, including hostess. After the death of her husband, she retired to the Elms at Tanglewood in Clemmons where she made many friends and was a loved and valued resident. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Rodwell and Rebekah Elizabeth Webb Gardner, and her husband, Robert Paul Buchanan, Jr. She is survived by her children, Robert Paul Buchanan-Linebaugh and his wife Shirley, of Portland, OR, and John Thomas Buchanan, of Butner, NC; her brother, John Franklin Gardner, and his wife, Sandra, of Spring Hope, NC; her sister-in-law, Martha Susan Buchanan Wood, and her husband, William Frederick Wood, of Waynesville, NC; her cousin, Talmadge Thomas Hinnant, and her husband, Harvey Hinnant; eight nieces and nephews; and several grand nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home, on Silas Creek Parkway, on Wednesday, Nov. 9th, 2011, from 7:00-9:00 pm. Graveside services will be at Forsyth Memorial Park on Nov. 10th, 2011, at 11:00 am. The family is deeply thankful for the compassionate care of Gloria by the staff of the Elms at Tanglewood and the physicians and staff at Baptist Hospital.
