Mrs. Glenda Kimmer Laird, 80, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born February 21, 1942, in Forsyth County to the late Fred Garland Kimmer, Sr. and Mary Owings Kimmer. She was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem and graduated from Southwest High School. Shortly thereafter, she began working for the Hanes Hosiery Company, after which she began her lifelong career in banking at Winston-Salem Savings and Loan. She continued working in banking until her retirement from BB&T as a senior customer service representative. Glenda’s vibrant and warm personality made her a friend to anyone and everyone she met. Growing up, she was a member of Hanes Baptist Church where she married her husband of 58 years, Thomas “Tommy” Wayne Laird. Tommy and Glenda were high-school sweethearts that grew up together in the Hanes Town Community. Together, they devoted their lives to raising two beautiful daughters, Robin Laird Chaves and Krista Laird Lane. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who cherished the time she spent with her family. The running joke of the house was that Tommy was always outnumbered by his wife, two daughters, and five granddaughters, until finally they were blessed with two great-grandsons. Mimi, as she was called by her granddaughters, was so incredibly proud of her grandchildren and loved to celebrate their many accomplishments. It was her greatest joy to be a grandmother and a great-grandmother. Glenda was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are her husband, Tommy, of the home; two daughters, Robin Chaves and Krista Lane of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Katherine Loper and husband, Travis, Sarah Lane, Grace Chaves, Olivia Chaves, and Anna Chaves; two great-grandchildren, Grayson and Jackson Loper; four brothers, Fred G. Kimmer Jr. and wife, Jean, Calvin Lee Kimmer and wife, Carolyn, Samuel Ray Kimmer, and Roger Dale Kimmer. A private celebration of Glenda’s life will be held with immediate family, and a memorial blessing for friends and family will be held at a later date. The family may be reached at the home of Tommy and Glenda.
