Glen Howard Drake

Mr. Glen Howard Drake, 93, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 12, 2016. He was born in Smithville, TN on October 28, 1922 to the late Ethel Spencer Drake and Oba Thomas Drake. Mr. Drake was a decorated Army veteran having served during WWII. He survived the second wave of the first day of the invasion of Omaha Beach. He also fought in five major battles, receiving a silver star, five bronze stars, and was awarded the Army sharpshooter medal. As a soldier, as many did, Mr. Drake witnessed the Holocaust with his own eyes. He was a born again Christian and faithful member of Beulahland Baptist Church. Mr. Drake served the Lord in many ways including, promoting gospel music and singing at nursing homes. He was an avid golfer and baseball fan who enjoyed pulling for the St. Louis Cardinals. Mr. Drake is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Doris Tuttle Drake; one son, Glen H. Drake, II (Debi); one daughter, Martha Suzanne Miller (Bruce); two step-children, Beverly Gail Ziglar Welborn (Ken) and Mark Ziglar (Dianne); three grandchildren: Debbie, Amy, and Brian; three step-grandchildren: Kendall, Allison, and Dusty; one great-grandchild, Logan; and three step-great-grandchildren: Charlize, Tanner, and Tate; and four siblings: Veda Bell, Evelyn Hopkins, JoAnn Kulka, and Wayne Thomas Drake. A funeral service will be conducted 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14 at Beulahland Baptist Church with Bro. Anthony Gordy and Bro. Randy Collins officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. A committal service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 15 at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown with military rites provided by the Pilot Mountain VFW Memorial Honor Guard.
