Mrs. Gladys Elizabeth Little Swing, 94, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Salemtowne Retirement Community. Gladys was born on November 28, 1922, in Guilford County to the late William Oscar Little and Minnie Oliver Little. She was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem. Following her retirement from Wachovia Mortgage Company, she worked at Ardmore United Methodist Through The Week School until the age of 90. Gladys volunteered on a part-time basis at the school until the age of 93. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Swing and seven brothers and sisters. Gladys is survived by her children, Susan Hatfield and husband, Jim of Winston-Salem and Jim Swing and fiancé, Carrie Bullock of Winston-Salem; two grandsons, B.J. Swing and fiancé, Stephanie Bradshaw of Greenville, NC and Stew Swing of Clemmons, NC; nieces, Frances Dean, Marie Winfrey, Louise Johnson, Yvonne Gragg, and Betty Wyrick; nephews, Oscar and Mark Little; and numerous other loving relatives. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Highland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Randy Harris and Rev. Debbie Layman officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. A heartfelt thank you to those very special staff members at Salemtowne who demonstrated their love and care for our mother. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Highland Presbyterian Church, 2380 Cloverdale Ave. NW, Winston-Salem, NC or Ardmore United Methodist Church Through The Week School, 630 South Hawthorne Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the family of Mrs. Swing.
