Gladys Flynn Lakey

Mrs. Gladys Flynn Lakey, 99, of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born November 22, 1913 in Forsyth County, the daughter of Curtis Flynn and Maggie Truelove Flynn. Mrs. Lakey was a member of Salem Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery for 60 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph Lakey; four sisters; one brother; and a daughter, Colleen Cash. Surviving are one son, William Joseph Lakey, Jr. and wife Betty of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Wilma Payne and husband Robert of Greensboro; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Salem Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Wilburn officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at 11:00 AM Monday, December 17, 2012 at Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church Nursery Department, 429 S. Broad Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or Kate B.
