Gladys Davenport Carmichael

WALKERTOWN-Gladys Edna Davenport Carmichael, 95, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at The Oaks at Forsyth. She was born June 14, 1914 in Greenville Co., SC to the late Charles W. and Mamie Tollison Davenport. Gladys was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church and alumnus of Forsyth Medical Association. She graduated from City Memorial Hospital of Nursing in 1943. Surviving are her husband, Renza Thomas Carmichael of the home; her daughter, Mary Beth Evans and husband John of Woodstock, GA; two grandchildren, Dara W. Lumpkin of Kennesaw, GA, and Leslie W. Sutphen of Grapevine, TX; four great-grandchildren, Chelsea Williams, Austin Tatum, Luke Sutphen, and Logan Sutphen; three sisters, Eris Choplin of WS, Cathryn Johnson of Yadkinville, and Carolyn Bovender of Carolina Beach. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00pm Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel with Dr. Bobby Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
