Gilbert Junior Sheets

KERNERSVILLE - Gilbert Junior Sheets, 84, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 29, 1927 in Greenbank, WV to the late Samuel Gilbert and Ollie Rhodes Edminston Sheets. Gil retired from the United States Navy after many years of service. While he was in the navy, he traveled all over the world, and lived on Midway Island and Puerto Rico as well. He always had a kind word for everybody, a joke or a story, and a helping hand for all. He frequently returned to West Virginia to visit friends and family. Gil loved his church; where he also served as an elder, and enjoyed the fellowship of working on the egg project. He and his storytelling will be sorely missed. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Hamed Sheets; two brothers and two sisters. Surviving are his daughter, Teresa Ann Sheets of Kernersville; one sister, Jane Hamed of Greenbank, WV; sister-in-law, Bernice Taylor of Arbovale, WV; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Arlene Rexrode of Arbovale, WV. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, August 27, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church in Kernersville with Rev. Clark Vincent officiating. Entombment will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Friday, August 26, 2011 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
