Gertrude Marion Allen

Mrs. Gertrude Marion Allen, 93, of Shoals, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016 at her residence. She was born on August 16, 1922 in Surry County to Nora Hunt and Sidney Sherman Marion. Mrs. Allen spent her life living in and serving the Shoals Community. She was a member of Pilot View United Methodist Church and retired from Wachovia Bank. Mrs. Allen was a tobacco farmer, homemaker, a member of Shoals Home Extension Club, and was active in the Shoals Ruritan Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 71 years, Clarence John Allen; three sisters, June M. Hicks, Roxie M. Shaeffer, and Nina M. Cook; four brothers, Charlie Marion, Nathanial ""Nat"" Marion, Donald Marion, and Dean Marion. She is survived by one sister, Violet M. Simmons; one brother, Sidney Mack Marion; two special nephews, Joel and Scotty Marion; one very special great nephew, John Marion; three special great nieces Jessi, Sydney, and Sami Marion; and several other nephews and nieces. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Pilot View United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Lutz, Rev. David Raiford, and Mr. Eddie Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family would like to thank Mrs. Allen's caregivers, Teresa Marion, Janet Sumner, Nikki Mitchell, and Kim Jessup, and to her Dr. Renee' Tegeler for the loving care they provided to Gertrude.
