Geraldine McCulloh Smith

Mrs. Geraldine McCulloh Smith, 85, of Advance passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born November 29, 1923 in Davie County to George Washington and Harriet Jones McCulloh. Mrs. Smith was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and was retired from P.H. Hanes Knitting Company. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Anderson Smith, Sr.; one sister and six brothers. Surviving is a son, Andy Smith; a daughter, Jean S. Phelps and husband Tom; two grandchildren, Andra Smith and Corrie Phelps and two sisters, Georgia Taft and Bonnie Helsabeck, all of Advance. A funeral service was held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Marshall and Rev. Donald Funderburk officiating. Entombment followed in the church Mausoleum. The family received friends 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. During recent years, her health declined and she needed helping hands to help her along her journey. The family would like to express their grateful appreciation to those who ministered to her needs over the past four years. Although several caregivers have come and gone, she loved each of you very much. Special thanks to Lillian Sidden, Christy Brown, Tiffany Zamora, Brandi Deece, Peggy Baity, Libby Hendrix, Barbara Smith, Betty Stafford, Ashley Matthews, Jean DeLaSerna, Penny Barnette and Kathy Allen. Remember the love you shared and miss her, but let her go for we know it's all a part of our Master's plan. Also, special thanks to Dan Anderson, her Sunday School Teacher, for visiting her almost every week at home and the many hours you spent by her bedside the last two days at the Kate B.
