Gerald Garnett Cope, 65, of Oak Ridge passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2009. He was born November 12, 1944 in Winston-Salem to the late Inez Mitchell Cope and Nollie Cope. After high school he went on to serve in the United States Army for three years. At the time of his death he was the owner of Mechanical Air, Inc. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Gerald's lifelong hobby and passion was building and restoring custom street rods. As many said, he was a master at it. Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Geraldine Wooten Cope; son, Bryan Cope of Austin, TX; daughter, Karrie Cope Perreira; son-in-law, Jimmy Perreira and granddaughter, Kailey Perreira, all of Greensboro; brothers, Don Cope, Sammy Cope and Ron Cope. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 3, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Reverend Thomas Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Thursday prior to the service. The family requests memorials be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to express their appreciation to his employees at Mechanical Air for the dedication and devotion they have given for many years, as well as their loving family and friends who have given so much love and support throughout the years.
