Georgia Banner Spease

SPEASE Georgia Banner Spease, 92, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at Salemtowne Retirement Community. She was born May 20, 1917, in Forsyth Conty, the daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Bessie Berrier Banner. Georgia grew up in Germanton and Winston-Salem and married Foster Elwood Spease who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Banner and three sisters, Josephine Larrimore, Barbara Jean Banner and Ramona Banner. Survivors include her son, F. Elwood Spease, Jr. and wife Billie of Cleveland, NC; her daughter, Wanda Dorsett and husband Sam Dorsett of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren - Debra Spease of Burlington, NC, Richard Spease of Flanders, NJ, Ashley Kerman of Winston-Salem and Amy Kelly of Greensboro and Sam Dorsett III of Winston-Salem; four great-grandchildren; two sisters - Katherine Hudson and Helen Caffey of Winston-Salem, NC, and a brother, Reginald Banner of Jonesville, NC. She was a charter member of Rosemont Baptist Church and was the first Sunday school teacher of the Ladies Bible Class, teaching many years. She was honored at Rosemont's Homecoming Service in May 2006, citing her life and teaching as an inspiration and encouragement to many women. She retired from Sara Lee Corporation. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 pm, prior to the service. Burial will follow at Jefferson Church of Christ in Rural Hall, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to Salemtowne Retirement Community, 1000 Salemtowne Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 or Rosemont Baptist Church, 415 West Clemmonsville Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127. The family appreciates the love and care given by the Salemtowne staff in both the Special Care Unit and Assisted Living during the years Georgia lived at Salemtowne. Appreciation is also given to the members of the congregation of Rosemont who faithfully visited Georgia.
