George Watkins

Mr. George Ray Watkins, 73, passed away Tuesday November 29, 2022, at his home. He was born December 25, 1948, in Rowan County to the late Billy Ray Watkins and Bettie Newcomb Watkins. George was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and watch college football. His boys were his pride and joy, and he helped mold young men with his involvement in little league. George proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and truly believed that America was the land of the free because of the brave. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his special grandmother; Maw A, two brothers; Albert “Smootie” Watkins and William “Billy” Watkins, and a beloved niece; Jennifer Watkins. George is survived by his loving wife of fifty years; Sylvia Watkins, a son Bradley Watkins (Kristi), two grandsons; Dylan Watkins (Taylor) and Caden Watkins, two great-grandsons; Kai Watkins and Leo Watkins, a sister Shirley Ann “Sis” Koontz (Joel), a special niece Shannon Mann (Jason), a great-niece, Hailey Mann, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, December 10th, 2022, at Rural Hall Christian Church with Dr. Wesley McCarter officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. Inurnment will take place at Salisbury National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to North Forsyth Little League, PO Box 1043 Rural Hall, NC 27045.
