George Grady Thompson, 84, departed this life on November 11, 2009 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born October 6, 1925, in Franklin, NC to the late Jess & Ethel Thompson. He served his country in the Navy during WWII & later retired from McLean Trucking Company. He was an avid sports fan who loved watching college football, professional baseball & Tarheel basketball. He is survived by his wife, Minnie Virginia Holt Thompson, sons George Larry Thompson & wife Shirley, Grady Gary ""Tommy"" Thompson & wife Deborah, and daughter Cynthia Louise Thompson; grandchildren Christy Thompson Hargett & husband Brian, Amret Thompson Hawfield & husband Wesley, Jeffery Scott Thompson, Katherine Thompson, & great-grandchildren Cora & Maeve Hawfield. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, November 13, 2009 at noon at the Salisbury National Veterans Cemetery in Salisbury, NC. The family wishes to express sincere and heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their care & compassionate support given to George & his family. The family also wishes to express thanks to all the friends & neighbors for their prayers & support during the time of George's illness.
