George "David" Smyrl

George David Smyrl, fondly known as David, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on April 24, 1945, in Michigan, David was adopted by Mercedes Elizabeth and George David Smyrl Jr. in Philadelphia, PA, where his life journey began.

David lived a rich and fulfilling life, full of passion and joy. He loved sailing, running marathons, and singing in the Church Choir. Above all, he cherished being a father, always his daughters’ biggest supporter, attending their track and soccer events with pride and enthusiasm. A highlight of his career was spent as an administrator at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington. David also found great joy in watching Christmas Vacation, which he affectionately called "The Movie," making it a beloved holiday tradition year after year.

David shared 40 years of marriage with his former wife, Diana, in Pittsburgh, PA, where they raised their daughters and built a life full of love and memories. In his later years, he began a new chapter of his life with Phyllis Hart, whom he married, and together they spent 14 fulfilling years in Long Beach, CA. In California, David embraced the warmth of the sunshine, developed a love for golf, and often visited Manhattan Beach, where he felt at peace.

David is survived by his daughters, Ashley Petronizo (her husband Thomas "T" Petronizo, and their children Mason, Annabelle, Riley, David "Jax," Miles, and Kai) and Stephanie Smyrl (her wife Leise Smyrl, and their twins, Kellam David and Genevieve).

Following David's wishes, there will be no formal services held.
