George James Orgeron Jr passed away July 31, 2015. He was born in Houston, Texas May 10, 1943 to the late George James Sr and Pauline Cathcart Orgeron. He graduated from LaMarque High School in LaMarque, TX class of 1961. He then earned a bachelor's degree from North Texas State University where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.
Surviving are his loving wife of 25 years Daphne Ann Orgeron; one sister Raynez Orgeron of LaMarque, Tx; a son James Orgeron and wife Julie of Terry, MS; two daughters Sharon McCreery and husband Mark of Madison, MS, and Rachel Schulze and husband Paul of Dallas, TX; one stepson Corky Corbin and wife Sharon of Columbia, SC; and two stepdaughters Jenny Edwards and husband Jay of Clemmons, NC, and Sage Swaim of Lexington, NC; one nephew Brent and one niece Stephenie both of LaMarque, TX. Thirteen beloved grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
George was an active member of The Anglican Cathedral Church of St Francis where he was the head usher and member of The Brotherhood of St Francis.
George grew up with a love of football. He played all four years of high school and the love followed him through life. He enjoyed watching any Texas team play but he appreciated any team that had a talented quarterback.
Anyone who knew George well knew he loved to cook and excelled at it. He enjoyed sharing his creations with his friends and family. The only thing he liked better than cooking was eating. He had a ferocious appetite.
For 25 years George and Daphne loved to spend time together ballroom dancing. They would often joke that they took lessons for all of those years but never graduated. You could often find them dancing together in their living room or campsite.
Nearly every summer they spent time taking their grandchildren all over the country in their RV. They loved to travel and camp and it was a great joy of theirs to share this love with their grandchildren. They loved to take these opportunities to show them new things. You would often find him playing ball or cards with one of his grandsons or sitting with one of his granddaughters in his lap.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at Christ Church, Anglican with the Rev. Keith Huffman officiating.
George will be dearly missed by everyone blessed to have known and loved him.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to The Anglian Cathedral Church of St Francis 470 Eagle Drive, El Paso, TX 79912.
