George John Meyer

Mr. George John Meyer, 89, died on March 17, 2017, at Wake Forest Baptist Health. George was born on November 2, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY, to George Harry and Elizabeth Bobcek Meyer. He was a U.S. Veteran who served briefly in the U.S. Navy before being transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves. He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, golfing, bowling, and dancing. He was also a 33rd degree Free Mason and a member of the Shrine Club, Moose Lodge #446, and Elks Lodge #449. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and he will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine Appel. Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Bernice McGovern Meyer; three daughters, Patricia DePaulis (husband Danny), Penny Brown (husband Eric), and Barbara Carter; six grandchildren, Brian DePaulis, Pamela Hipp (husband Jon), Jade Essick, Clifton Carter, Ashley Brown, and Laura Brown; great-grandchildren, Addison Hipp, Raegan Hipp, Jaxon Brinkley, and Ryleigh Powers; special niece, Linda Murnane; and several great-nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 3:30pm on March 20, 2017, at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on March 20, 2017, from 1-3pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek. The Family extends their sincere thanks, appreciation, and gratitude to Dermot Solan, fondly referred to as their brother from another ""mudda"", for all of his love, support, and friendship. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Ln, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
