Mr. George Donald Messer, 81, of Lewisville died Friday, November 20, 2009 at his home. He was born July 12, 1928 in Salem County, NJ, the son of the late Monroe Howard and Alice Henson Messer. Mr. Messer served with the US Army and was stationed in Japan during World War II. He was an avid gardner, beloved husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two infant brothers, a brother, Karl Monroe Messer and a sister, Edna Hunter. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Edith Messer of the home; one son, Michael Messer and wife, Shelley of Lewisville; one grandson, Mason Messer; four sisters, Sarah Pryor, Doris Cearley and husband, Robert, Pauline McEwen and husband, J. C. and Shirley Drane; five brothers, William Messer and wife, Helen, Jack Messer, James Messer and wife, Nancy, Robert Messer and wife, Becky and Joe Messer; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted Monday at 2:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. William Hutchins officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Baptist Church Cemetery in Lewisville. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
