RURAL HALL - Mr. George Burns Long passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 28, 1934 in Danville, VA to the late Bernice Burns Long and Charles Burrington Long. Mr. Long proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired from AT&T with over 31 years of service. He enjoyed taking on projects of any size and for the last 38 years, he enjoyed living in the house he built with his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by his brother, Siegby Long. Surviving are his wife of 55 ½ years, Clara Smith Long; four daughters, Karen Long, Kristy Long (John Kemper), Pamela Long and Patricia Clements (Tim); two grandsons, Thomas and Matthew Kemper; and two special pets, Pepper and Rainy. A Funeral Service will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with the Rev. Nancy Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will be held in Trenton Cemetery at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2010 in Trenton, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
