George Kellock ""Kip"" Hale, III of Winston-Salem lost his battle with Alzheimer's on October 27, 2013 at the age of 81. He was born June 13, 1932 in Surry County, NC to the late George and Dorothy Eisentrager Hale, Jr. Kip started working during high school on the weekends as a drummer in a local band. After high school Kip attended North Carolina State College where he studied Electrical Engineering for 1 year and then transferred to Guilford College where he pursued a degree in Physics for 2 more years. He then joined the Air Force and served 4 years. While in the Air Force he served at bases in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and the Artic working on Radar systems, Radio and Television stations. After the Air Force Kip started working at Western Electric in Winston-Salem in the ""Tech Pub"" writing repair manuals for the Nike-Hercules missiles. From there he moved on to Long Communications where he worked for 31 years until he retired. He also worked for 30 years as a Technical Director at Reynolds Auditorium. After retirement from Long, he worked as an Audio Visual consultant at the Lawrence Joel Memorial Coliseum until he finally retired at 79. When not working he enjoyed many years at Lake Norman with family and friends always ready to take someone waterskiing. He also was a volunteer at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer NC for 18 years. He is survived by his wife Sylvia V. Hale; two sons Kelly Hale and wife Lisa, Gregory Hale and wife Tracy; five grandchildren Anna Hale, Emily Hale, Logan Hale, Luke Hale, Lauren Hale; two cousins Art and Denise Jarvis. A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, November 1, 2103 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Highland Presbyterian Church at 2380 Cloverdale Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or a charity of one's choice.
