George Dewey Gambill, Jr.

Mr. George Dewey Gambill, Jr., 85, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, July 11, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born August 20, 1925 in Forsyth County to George Dewey Gambill, Sr. and Walsie Waddell Gambill. Mr. Gambill was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice Gambill; two sisters, Mae Byrd and Dona Reece; two brothers, Worth and Sherill Gambill; and a stepdaughter, Barbara Miller. Surviving are his wife, Sallie Long Gambill of the home; two daughters, Linda Beck of Sunrise, FL and Carol King and husband Paul of Winston-Salem; a son, Alan Gambill and wife Dana of Middleburg, FL; four grandchildren, Richard, Justin and Shawn Gambill, and Keith Thomas; stepchildren, Gail Routt and husband Jack of Clarksville, GA, Crawford Born and wife Diane of Winston-Salem, Clayton Born and wife Cheryl of Pinnacle; step son-in-law, Danny Miller of Winston-Salem; seven step grandchildren; and seven step great grandchildren; one brother, Clay Gambill and wife Jo; two sisters, Marie Icenhower and husband Junior, and Ruth Gambill, all of Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 14 at Crestview Memorial. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
