George Michael (“Mike”) Fagan, 69, passed away on Saturday, March 12th, 2022, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem, holding the hand of his beloved wife, Robin. He fought a long and hard battle with cancer and is now free from pain and in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mike was born in Madison, Connecticut, to George and Margaret Fagan. He also shared his childhood with three siblings; Frank, Tom, and Ginny. He was a star athlete at Daniel Hand High School and was named to the Madison Athletic Hall of Fame in 2021. He later graduated from Loyola University Chicago John Felice Rome Center and spent an additional two years in Italy working as a resident advisor. While working for RJ Reynolds, Mike completed his MBA at the UCLA Anderson School of Management before settling into a successful career in marketing.
Mike loved retirement and saw the world as his oyster. You could often find him cycling around town, taking up residence on the local golf course, or letting his three dogs (Iggy Azalea, Beyonce, and Cardi B) run leash-free at Reynolda Gardens. Mike’s joyful demeanor made him the perfect laughter yoga instructor and he taught classes for local groups and clubs for a number of years. Laughter was always his greatest medicine, and it was impossible to not smile while in the presence of Mike Fagan. He and Robin went on many wonderful trips together, taking on the world hand in hand, and exploring places from Alaska to Africa and the in between. Above all, his greatest joy over the past five years has been doting on his two beautiful grandchildren, Lydie and Ella Phillips, for whom he would say were his greatest reasons to fight for more time on earth. He loved his family with every fiber of his being and made it known in every text message, phone call, and care package.
Mike is survived by his wife, Robin Stinson, and four children; Matthew Fagan and his partner Emily Browder, Chiara Fagan Phillips and husband Andrew Phillips, Bryan Fagan, and Candace Mulherin. He is also survived by his three siblings; Frank (Patricia), Tom (Kathy), and Ginny (Bruce Boddie), sister-in-law and brother-in-law Patricia and Richard Murphy, and his many nieces and nephews. Additionally, he is survived by countless friends across the globe who have always felt the warmth that Mike radiated, from near and far. Those friends and family members who have preceded him in death were making a long line to welcome him into heaven; that we are sure of.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, March 15 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. A service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 16 at 2:00 PM at Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 W 5th St, Winston-Salem, NC 27101, with Tammy Pollock officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to the Centenary Fund, c/o Centenary United Methodist Church, PO Box 658, Winston-Salem, NC 27102.
