Mr. George Dennis Caster, 78, of Winston-Salem passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Jefferson County KY on July 7, 1930 to the late George Dennis Caster, Sr. and Rosalia Barker Caster. Mr. Caster was designated as ""Outstanding Young Man of the Year"" in Richmond, VA in 1965 for being instrumental in establishing a school for handicapped children and providing transportation to and from the school for these children. In 1965 he also received the Herbert A. Perry Memorial Award for dedication and service to the community. He was also the campaign chairman for the Richmond Muscular Dystrophy Drive. Mr. Caster was a graduate of the University of Louisville. He retired from Westinghouse Electric Corporation. He was an avid golfer and volunteer for Lifeline and Special Olympics. He was a member of Knights of Columbus. Mr. Caster was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Paul Caster. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Taylor Caster; his daughter, Leslie Marie Caster and her husband Jason L. Killion; his mother, Dorothy E. Caster; 2 sisters, Mary Virginia Weber and her husband James, Patricia A. Oberhausen and her husband Lawrence; 1 brother, William T. Caster and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 11, 2008 at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church with Father Brian Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family extends special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Forsyth Medical Center and the staff at KBR. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kate B.
