WINSTON-SALEM-Mr. George Thomas Atkins, 66, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2013 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Atkins was born on February 20, 1947 in Forsyth County, NC to George Maxwell Atkins and Edith Louise Jones Atkins. George graduated from Northwest Guilford High School. He spent 42 years in the trucking industry and retired from Yellow Roadway Corporation. George lived in Winston-Salem the majority of his life. He enjoyed plants, flowers, and animals, especially cats and dogs. Preceding Mr. Atkins in death were his mother and one brother, Virgil Wayne Atkins. Mr. Atkins is survived by his partner, William Sprinkle of Winston-Salem; father, George M. Atkins of Greensboro, NC; one sister, Sandra Elizabeth Parkes and husband, Richard of Greensboro, NC; a brother, James Steven Atkins and wife, Carolyn of Ruffin, NC; three beloved nieces and a nephew and numerous other loving family members. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Pleasant Ridge Christian Church, 2049 Pleasant Ridge Rd., Greensboro, NC 27410.
