George Maxwell Atkins

Greensboro - Mr. George Maxwell Atkins, age 90, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Brookdale Northwest Greensboro. Mr. Atkins was born in Guilford County, North Carolina on August 25, 1925 to Jesse Burl and Treva Harrison Atkins. He was a Veteran, having served in the US Navy during WWII. Following his return to civilian life, Mr. Atkins was a Colorist in the Textile Industry. He was a member of Church of Christ in Winston-Salem, enjoyed fishing and bowling, and had a smile that would light up your heart.

Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Jones Atkins. He is survived by a daughter Sandra Parkes (Richard), son Steve Atkins (Carolyn), 4 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, three sisters - Barbara, Janice, and Carolyn, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Pleasant Ridge Christian Church, with Pastor Bill Meredith officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 at the church prior to the service. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
