Geneva Landingham Mosteller

WINSTON SALEM – Geneva Elizabeth Landingham Mosteller, 104, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 surrounded by her family. Geneva was born on August 18, 1919 in Winston-Salem, NC to Nellie Mae Pike and Grover Landingham Sr.  She was raised in the Mineral Springs community, graduating from Mineral Springs High School and attending Ogburn Memorial Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and played piano for a male quartet. She worked at Western Electric (AT&T) in the Personnel Department – Hiring Division, for 25 years before her retirement in 1986.

In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Paul “Pete” Mosteller of Vale, NC; and her beloved daughter, Pamela Elizabeth Smith. Also preceding her in death were four sisters, Veatrice Elliott, Evelyn Beeson, Blanche Redding, and Barbara Jean Easter; and three brothers, Johnny Landingham, G. C. Landingham, Jr., and Harry Lee Landingham.

Surviving are three daughters, Becky Myers of Winston-Salem, Sylvia Atkison (Vin) of Greenville SC, and Paula Avant (Billy) of Glade Valley, NC; eight grandchildren, Lisa Payne, David Beard, Traci Dunlap, Rodney Smith, Chris Ables, Roy Myers, Jamie McVay, and Susan Hill; 19 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; and many much loved nieces and nephews.

Geneva was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. All will miss her greatly, but are grateful for the impact she had on their lives.

Playing the piano was a source of much enjoyment throughout her life. Playing by ear was always fun as you only had to hum the tune for her to play all over the keyboard. Playing carols for the grandkids was always a special time at Christmas.

Her life centered around her family and church. In 1952, Geneva and her family made Friedland Moravian Church their home church. She served on numerous committees as well as a diener, pianist, teacher and faithful choir member. The Women’s Fellowship could always count on her for her yummy pound cake and her “crimping” skills when making chicken pies (although she didn’t eat chicken)! Geneva loved her church friends and enjoyed sending them birthday cards, as well as never missing a card for any of her family’s birthdays.

Her joys were cross stitching, reading, planting flowers, and travelling, far and wide. She was able to travel much of the world with good church friends and family. From her annual beach trips to just taking long rides later in life, she always loved “to go.”

Her family expanded greatly over her 104 years. She welcomed all into her heart and home. Christmas and Easter were her favorite times of the year as all of them gathered at her home for church, dinner and wonderful family time. She might even dance a little! It was the time spent together that she treasured most.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Friedland Moravian Church. Burial will follow in God’s Acre at Friedland. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. in the Church Fellowship Hall.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Trellis Supportive Care for their love and care of Geneva. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Geneva’s memory to Friedland Moravian Church, 2750 Friedland Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
