Mrs. Geneva Sutphin Lane, 89, passed away June 12, 2016. She was born April 13, 1927 in Surry County to the late Rowdy M. Sutphin and Nannie Slaydon Sutphin. She was a current member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. She was a former member at Southminster Presbyterian Church for 50 years where she was very active by being the first female elder, a deacon, church treasurer, Women's Circle chairperson, and a Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher. She graduated White Plains High School in 1944 and she retired from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. She loved to cook and feed her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Porter W. Lane in 1989. She is survived by her children, Ann Lane Tester (Robert), Kay Lane (Carl Stainback), and Terry D. Lane (Sandra); four grandchildren, Lori Barlow (Chris), Matt Lane (Julie), Andy Lane (Lisa), and Amy Phillippe (Jeremy); seven great-grandchildren, Myles Barlow, Riley Phillippe, Matthew Lane, Khloe Phillippe, Lucas Lane, Layla Phillippe, and Glavine Lane; a sister, Peggy Sparger. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. David M. Rorie officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm until 2:00pm prior to the service.
