Gaynell "Gay" Lynch

Mrs. Gaynell "Gay” Petrie Lynch, 81, of Hazel Green, Alabama, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2022.  Gay was born in Winston-Salem, NC on September 13, 1941, to the late Magnus William Petrie and Nellie Sappenfield Petrie.  She received an Associate degree from Forsyth Community College and worked as a manager in the food service industry her entire career.  She retired from the Great American Cookie Company after many years of service.  Gay was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.  She enjoyed attending games with her family and was thrilled to be able to attend a game of the 1995 World Series.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Gayla Lane; siblings, Johnny Petrie, Dorothy Trantham, and Sandy Cook; and a daughter by marriage, Dani Decker.  She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Norman C. Lynch; two daughters, Deborah Forrest and Patricia Barber; son by marriage, Michael Lynch; grandchildren, Matthew Barber, Josh Lane, Tara Cunningham (Lee), Jeremy Lane, and Kayci Roberts; and great-grandchildren, Logan Barber, Layla Lane, Mason Lane, Amara Cunningham, Tristan Cunningham, Dylan Cunningham, and Baylee Cunningham.  Gay is also survived by her siblings, JoAnn Hill and Billie Petrie and son-in-law, Roger Lane.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.  The family will receive friends from 9:00 am – 9:45 am prior to the service.  A private interment will follow the service.  Gay was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister.  Her greatest gift was helping the people in her life who needed her the most.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.  The family is accepting flowers, or you may contribute to the charity of your choice in memory of Gay.
