Gay Evans Bell Tilley

Gay Evans Bell Tilley passed away Monday, December 3, 2012. She was born August 24, 1928 to Tom and Carrie Sykes Evans in Alleghany County, NC. She received her education at the Children's Home in Winston-Salem and at R. J. Reynolds High School, graduating in 1946. She was a member of Fairview Moravian Church, BPOE Elks Auxiliary and retired from N. C. Baptist Hospital in 1992 after 25 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Fred Eugene Bell, Sr.; four brothers, Edison, Clyde, Garnet, and Glen; three sisters, Mary, Sue, and Carmen. Also preceding her in death were her foster mother, Grace Barnard O'Mohundro of Franklin, NC and her second husband, John Tom Tilley of Winston-Salem. Surviving are three daughters and a son, Sandra Bell Respess (Dick) of Lake Norman, NC, Fred Bell, Jr. (Caitlin) of Winston-Salem, NC, Jo Ann Bell Robinson (Wesley), Nancy Bell Johnson (Tony) of Clemmons, NC; a grandson, Ben Johnson (fiancée Laura)of Greensboro, NC and a ""miracle"" granddaughter Olivia Bell of Winston-Salem, NC. Also surviving are two step-granddaughters, Christy Respess, Amy Respess Schell (Nate); three step-great-grandchildren, Caylyn, Callie, and Connor Schell of Winston-Salem. Also surviving are two sisters, Lillie Mae Halsey of Glade Valley, NC and Lou Riling of Inverness, FL; two sisters-in-law, Marie Rogers and Mildred Tilley of Westfield, NC and many special nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. G. Thomas Shelton and the Rev. Scott Venable officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
