Mr. Gary Robert Vance, 65, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away March 11, 2017 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C. He was born on October 13, 1953, in Forsyth County to Theon Harris Vance and Bettie Allen Vance. He was a member of South Fork Church of Christ in Winston-Salem. One of his favorite pastimes was reading. He also enjoyed watching reruns of the classic TV shows of his childhood. His earthly struggles were many. He overcame drug and alcohol addiction, various health problems, and divorce. In the end and through all of these, he kept himself at the foot of the Cross. When he would wander away, he always found his way back and was never happier than when he was at church. Gary is now home and free of all pain, worry, and care. We miss you so much, my brother, and we'll see you again soon. He is survived by four siblings: Theon Vance, Sr. (Sandra), Bettie Vance Steelman, Tom Allen Vance (Peggy), and Virginia (Jenny) Ann Vance Penland (Roger). He also leaves behind a beloved friend and caregiver, Sara Miller, his Uncle Henry Vance (Hazel), and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at South Fork Church of Christ, Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
