Rev. Gary Lee Sammons, January 3, 1939- August 20, 2015 ""Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints"" Psalm116:15. Heaven's doors opened on August 20th to receive God's faithful servant home. Gary Sammons, 76, was born in Des Moines, Iowa to the late Donald Sammons and Ada Hart Sammons. He was also preceded in death by his son, Paul Andrew Sammons. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Wilma; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Covert, husband Roy, of Springdale, AR; son, James Sammons, wife Karen, of Cornelius, NC; three grandchildren, Ashley Covert, Victoria Covert and Ryan Covert all from Springdale, Arkansas; special friend of the family, Daniel Matthew Reynolds; Brother Charles Sammons, Des Moines, Iowa; Nephews, nieces, many loving cousins and a host of friends from around the world. Gary received a B.A. degree in Biology from Drake University and a TH.M degree in Christian Education at Dallas Theological Seminary. He studied Spanish for one year in Mexico before missionary service in Santiago, Chile. His true joy was in teaching God's Word and for 25 years he ministered in two Bible Colleges, Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa and Piedmont International University in Winston-Salem, NC. Overlapping the teaching ministry he served for 20 years in the Iowa and North Carolina National Guard. For 21 years Gary and Wilma served with Baptist mid- Missions, first in the University Ministry, Campus Bible Fellowship and then Spanish Literature and Theological Curriculum ministry, EBI. Before his retirement, eight months ago, he was the coordinator for an online Master of Arts in Biblical Studies Program, in Spanish. In all of these ministries Gary was a faithful teacher and mentor with a genuine love of sharing Christ with everyone. Pastor Howard Wilburn will be officiating the funeral, Monday, August 24th, at Salem Baptist Church, 7:00 PM. Visitation is from 5:00 to 6:45 PM at the church.
