Gary Lee Koontz

Mr. Gary Lee Koontz, 68, of 110 Cartgate Ct., Advance, NC, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 26, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born October 31, 1940 in Forsyth County to Wilburn Atlee and Margaret Blackburn Koontz. He retired as Vice-President and Treasurer of Integon Corp. in 1995, and was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Epiphany. For many years, he was very active as a coach in the Southwest Forsyth Little League, and for 40 years was a huge Wake Forest fan and member of the Deacon Club. He was also involved with Big Brothers - Big Sisters of Forsyth County. He is survived by his wife, Virginia B. (Jenny) Koontz of the home; one son, Chris (and wife Pat) Koontz of Clemmons; one grandson, Alex Koontz: and one brother, Reginald (and wife Carol) Koontz of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday March 30, 2009 at the Lutheran Church of the Epiphany by Pastor Merlin T. Batt. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel and requests that memorials be made to Lutheran Church of the Epiphany, 5220 Silas Creek Pkwy., Winston-Salem, NC 27106. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the physicians, nurses, and staff at WFU Baptist Medical Center for their care and concern.
