Mr. Gary Wayne Barbee, age 79 of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 1, 2023. It was the end of a ten-year battle with Alzheimer’s. Gary was surrounded by his beloved wife and family members and neighbors. He was born August 5, 1943, in Orange County to the late James Edward Barbee and Ruth Katherine Boyer Barbee. He attended Hanes High School. Gary retired after working with Coca-Cola Consolidated for almost 40 years. He also retired from the North Carolina National Guard in 1982. Gary was an avid fisherman. Gary was a compassionate supporter of Mills Home. Before his illness, Gary attended Maplewood Baptist Church in Yadkinville where he was an avid supporter of the Maplewood Youth. He is preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Larry (Gail), John, and Eddie. He is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Vivian Windsor Barbee; two sisters, Nancy Whittington and Kathy (Steve) Motsinger, mother-in-law, Marie Reavis Windsor, brother-in-law Tim (Tammy) Windsor, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday evening at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel by Pastor John Jones and Rev. Rick Houston with full military honors to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to Baptist Children’s Homes of NC (Mills Home) P.O. Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361.
