Mr. Gary Elliott Baker, 82, passed away March 8, 2018. He was born in SC on June 26, 1935 to the late Nealy Blanche Elliott Baker and Gary Eustace Baker. Gary proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a devoted Christian whose favorite past time was reading the Bible. He loved the Lord, his family, and his cat, Willie. Gary never met a stranger and was always quick to lend a helping hand. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed watching golf and Duke basketball. Gary also enjoyed fishing and hunting. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jerry Lumley and his brother-in-law, Tommy Samuels. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Edith W. Baker; four children: Jodie Lumley, Gary Steven Baker (Louise), Robyn Denise Baker, and Traci Ann Baker; two grandchildren, Brittany Lawson (Robert) and Dustin Baker (Kristen); four great-grandchildren: Taylor Ann Lawson, Landon Blake Lawson, Andrew Lee Baker, and Weston Douglas Baker; and two sisters, Sylvia Allgood (Larry) and Shirley Samuels. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Crestwood Baptist Church with Pastor Benjamin Webb officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crestwood Baptist Church, 530 Motor Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
