Walkertown - Mr. Garry Steven “Steve” Whiteheart, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Forsyth County to Grady, Sr. and Mozelle Disher Whiteheart. Steve fought a long, brave battle with cancer for 11 years. We are thankful that he is now perfectly healed, and that he is with Jesus Christ, his Savior, in heaven. Steve was the founder and President of Whiteheart and Sons Automotive and Towing, serving the Winston-Salem community since 1985. He enjoyed meeting new people and serving his customers. Steve told many of God's faithfulness to him. He was also a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church for over 50 years.
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Grady Whiteheart, Jr. and his brother-in-law, Gray Fulp.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Gay Nell Whiteheart; his children, Scotty, Jeff (Lori), Garry (Kelly) and Rebecca (Brian) Vanderford; grand-children, Kimberly, Matthew, Andrew, Jacob, Nathan, Trent, Grayson, Mollie, Jonathan, and Abigail; and 8 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Judy Fulp, Joyce Vanderlinden (Steve), Jerry Whiteheart (Sue); sister-in-law Claudine Whiteheart, sister-in-law Sue Ann Vandiver, brother-in-law William Aaron (Lisa), many precious nieces, nephews, cousins, a special family friend, Andy Ricketts, and several loyal employees.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to those who were a tremendous blessing to Steve and his family during his illness: our extended family member and dear friend, Joanna Smith, for her love and willingness to share her gift of nursing to help care for Steve; Dr. John Britt and his nurse, Fran for their exceptional care for Steve; the nurses and staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home and to Trellis Supportive Care (Walnut Cove) for their compassionate care for Steve and family; and our church family and friends who faithfully prayed for Steve and encouraged him.
A funeral service for Steve will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew Morrison, Rev. Frank Shumate, and Bro. Nathan Vanderford officiating. A private family interment will follow the service. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 am until 12:45 pm prior to the service. Friends may also view and sign the register starting at 10:00 am prior to the visitation. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
