Garnett L. Midkiff, Sr., 86 went into the presence of his Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at his home. Mr. Midkiff was born in Surry County to the late Ephraim Columbus and Ada Charlottie Brinkley Midkiff on October 15, 1931, the youngest of 10 children. He was a longtime member of Salem Baptist Church, a US Navy veteran where he served on the USS O'Brien as a Machinist Mate 1st Class from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the US Postal Service after 24 years with a driving safety record of over a million miles accident free. His love for motorcycling was carried over generations through his sons and grandchildren. He will be remembered by his undeniable commitment to his wife and his life-long service to his one and only Creator. Mr. Midkiff was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law's Cinthy Midkiff and Patti Midkiff. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley Maner Midkiff, three sons Garnett "Budd" (Donna); Robert "Bobby"; William "Billy" (fiancé, Lyzze Cronin), all of Winston Salem; sister, Beulah Inman; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday, February 16th, 6 to 8 pm at Hayworth Miller, Silas Creek Parkway. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, February 17th, at Salem Baptist Church, 429 S. Broad Street, Winston-Salem, NC. Graveside service will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church.
