KERNERSVILLE-Garland Eugene Vernon, 76, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. He was born March 31, 1933 in Smyth Co. , VA to the late Earl and Ruby Pennington Vernon. Mr. Vernon retired from Roadway after 37 years of service as a truck driver. He was an avid golfer and bowler. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Shirley Little Vernon of the home; two daughters, LuAnn Chaney and husband Robert of Charlotte, Sherry Bolens and husband, Mark of Kernersville; three grandchildren, Shannon Proctor and husband Ethan, Brandon Chaney all of Charlotte, and Justin Bolens of Kernersville; and he also leaves behind three brothers, James, Arthur, and Johnny Vernon; and one sister, Wanda Blevins. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Friday, March 19, 2010 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor E.C. Little of Chilhowie, VA officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
