Gail Loretta Cantrell Cooper passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022. Loretta was born August 19, 1940 in Rosman, NC to the late Joe Cantrell and Ola Butler Cantrell. Loretta graduated from Griffith High School in Winston-Salem. She married Charles Cleveland Cooper Jr. in 1958 and they had two children, Mark and Penny Cooper. She later earned her bachelor’s in accounting from Winston-Salem State University and provided accounting work for her family’s business. She was an avid gardener who loved word puzzles and laughter. She deeply cared about family and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her great-grandchildren. As a member of the W-S South English congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, she was happy to speak with others about her faith. Loretta always saw the best in everyone and was a constant source of comfort, support and positivity for those around her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cooper; daughter, Penny Cooper; sister, Kay Cantrell Peele; and brothers, Guy Cantrell and Joel Cantrell. She is survived by her son, Mark (Gina) Cooper; sister, Diane Cantrell; sister-in-law, Linda Cantrell; brothers, Garry (Darlene) Cantrell and Wayne (Norma) Cantrell all of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Mark (Stacy) Cooper of St. Petersburg, FL, Christina (Ifan) Yusuf of Winston-Salem, Joseph (Melissa) Cooper of Mary Esther, FL, and Ashley Frye of Winston-Salem; great-grandchildren, Bradley Cooper of Elizabeth City, NC, Alexis Cooper of Salt Lake City, UT, Joseph Cooper II and Alexandria Cooper of Mount Holly, NC, Anna Yusuf, Andi Yusuf, Amani Yusuf, Charlie Yusuf, Kayden Schafhauser and Timothy Jenkins all of Winston-Salem; numerous nieces and nephews and close friends, Delores Boyd, Alexis Gaines, and Barbara Hatcher. A celebration of life service will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek. A private family burial will follow at a later time.
