G Vernon Hendrix

Mr. G Vernon Hendrix Sr., 77, of Mocksville, went to be with his Savior and Lord, Tuesday, May 17th, 2016. He was born October 21st, 1938 in Davie County to Stella Ellis Hendrix and Lonnie Gaston Hendrix. He graduated from Davie County High School in 1957 and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 33 years of service. He enjoyed various activities such as: baseball, softball, hunting, fishing, gardening and singing. He was an avid Tarheels and Braves fan his entire life. He worshipped his Lord by singing in gospel quartets throughout his life. Mr. Hendrix was a member of Cornatzer United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served as a Methodist Men leader and served on various other committees. He was a faithful and loving husband to Patty Rae Fishel Hendrix, who preceded him in death in 2015, together they were married 57 years. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Edker JC, Hobert Harrell, and Monticello, all of Mocksville and two sisters: Gertrude (Gertie) Jolly and Dorothy (Dot) Hayes, both of Mocksville. Surviving him are two daughters; Lonna McDaniel (Billie) of Mocksville and Donna Davis (Ronnie) of Advance; one son, G Vernon Hendrix Jr. (Jamie) of Advance; eight grandchildren, Tiffany, Travis, Luke and Krystal Davis and Jake, Hunter and Addison Hendrix and John McDaniel; two sisters, Evelyn Hemrick of Mocksville and Sue Rivers of Roxboro. We thank God for the time and the memories we shared with our father, ""papaw"", brother and uncle. We are confident in knowing that absent from the body, he is in the presence of Jesus Christ, his Savior. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22nd, 2016 at Cornatzer United Methodist Church with Rev. Shane Young officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Friday, May 20th, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
