CHAPEL HILL — Freida Gertrude Mulvihill Gronberg, 92, passed away at UNC Hospice Home on Feb. 1, 2021. She was born on Feb. 9, 1928, in Revloc, Pennsylvania, to Bertha C. Stevens Mulvihill and John Leonard Mulvihill.
Freida loved to travel and in her long life lived in Buffalo, New York, Los Angeles, California, and Albany, New York, before she and her family settled in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in 1974. She married her husband, Richard Charles Gronberg, in 1959. They were together for 30 years until his death in 1989.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Mulvihill (Kimberly) of Angola, New York, and Raymond Gronberg of Durham, North Carolina; two brothers, Eugene Mulvihill of Buffalo, New York, and Clayton Mulvihill (Georgia) of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, a sister, Donna Kozerski of Buffalo, New York; a niece, Cheryl Black (Dwayne) of Rockford, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Virginia Condon of Clifton Park, New York; five grandchildren, Kimberly Wiseman, of New York City, New York; Richard Mulvihill of Altamonte Springs, Florida; Meghan Mulvihill of Blasdell, New York, David Mulvihill of Hamburg, New York, and Andrew Mulvihill of Depew, New York; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Freida was preceded in death by two brothers, John Mulvihill and Raymond Mulvihill, and four sisters, Marjorie Stich, Yvonne Eschenlauer, Leona Bernosky and Eurana Sloan.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 5, 2021 at Parklawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Hattie Durham, Hortensia Maxwell and Yolanda Morgan for the care they gave Freida in recent years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Humane Society of Forsyth County, 4881 Country Club Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27104
