Frederick Forrest Saunders

Mr. Frederick Forrest Saunders, 83, of Winston-Salem died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born June 8, 1926 in Winston-Salem, the son of the late Frederick Daniel and Cecelia Artie Melton Saunders. Mr. Saunders was a member of Konnoak Hills Methodist Church where he served on the official board, the twenty year planning board and taught Sunday school. He was a 1945 graduate of Reynolds High School and attended UNC and Wake Forest University. He served 25 years in the US Air Force between 1953 and 1979. He was past President of the Winston-Salem Exchange Club and helped set up the SCAN program. He was also past President of the Winston-Salem Elks Club and the Moose Lodge. He was retired from the US Postal Service and was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a lifetime member of the National Guard and was awarded a lifetime membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, Mary Saunders of the home; one son, Daniel V. Saunders and wife, Eleni of Charlotte; one sister, Shirley Moser and husband, Bob of Winston-Salem. The funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Monday, January 4, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Jeff Carter officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
