Frederick Moench, Jr.

Frederick James Moench Junior left this life on February 21, 2018. Born in Monmoth County, New Jersey to Frederick James Moench Senior and Beverly Geores Moench on October 24, 1956, he was a joy to all who knew him. A man of integrity and genuine character, Fred lit up the room with his contagious smile and booming laugh. Fred took an active, personal interest in the lives of his family, friends and neighbors. He was always there to lend a hand, an ear, or a shoulder to cry on. He was a quiet source of strength to so many.

He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife of 39 years Carolyn, daughters Virginia, Deirdre, and Heather, their spouses, granddaughter Lola, his mother Beverly, brothers John, Paul, Arthur, and Jim, sisters Anita and Ruth, and their families. Being surrounded by his very large, extended family was his biggest joy in life.

Fred was an active member of his alumni association and service fraternity at Belmont Abbey College. He attended the Abbey from 1974-1978 where he majored in political science while contributing to the community at large as a member of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity. It was during this time that he met the woman who would become his wife. He went on to a successful and vibrant career at Lowes Companies. In his leisure time he loved carving and painting duck decoys and traveling to the ocean whenever possible. He enjoyed literature, history, and a healthy debate. Above all, he loved his family.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Catholic Church in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to your local food bank or the Shepherd's Center of Winston-Salem at 1700 Ebert Street.
