Frederick Chatman Farmer

Fredrick C. ""Fred"" Farmer, our loving husband, father, and grandfather was born September 10, 1930 in High Point, a son of the late C.H. Farmer and the late Ethel Farmer. Also preceding him in death are his brothers, Clarence L. Farmer and Col. Douglas H. Farmer. He attended High Point Public schools and was President of the 1950 High Point High School Class (now Central High School). He married his high school sweetheart, Janice Colleen Murphy, in 1955 and they have been married over 54 years. They have 3 children: a son, F. Scott Farmer, wife Laurie and grandchildren Harrison Carley of McLean, VA; a daughter, Candi Michelle Clark, husband Kenny Clark grandchildren Hunter and Christina, of Matthews; and son Curtis C. Farmer, wife Alice grandchildren Katie, Allison and Jack of Dallas Texas and several nieces and nephews.. He was a winner of the Duke Alumni Scholarship and attended Duke University from 1950 to 1955, obtaining a degree in civil engineering. Commissioned an Ensign in the US Navy. He continued in the Naval Reserve and retired as a LCDR. Later in life, while with the government, he received a Master's degree in Public Administration, graduating with Honors. He spent 5 years in Civil Engineering and migrated to Sales Engineering and then directly to Sales for 15 years including District Manager for New England Life and Sales Manager for Markline Furniture Co. He was successfully elected to the North Carolina General Assembly as a Republican Representative from Forsyth County, and served during the 1972 session. Mr. Farmer was a toastmaster for 10 years and won the Sate Speech Contest and advanced to the National Semi-Finals. He spent 20 years with the US Department of Commerce promoting exports of NC products. He handled several missions overseas to Europe, Asia, and South America obtaining the Silver Medal, the 2nd highest government award for Meritorious Service. He was an instructor for 20 years with the Dale Carnegie Courses and became District Mgr. The order of his priorities are God, Family, Vocation. He and his wife have been members of College Park Baptist Church for 49 years. Serving as Teacher, Sunday School Director, Department Director, Choir Member, and Decon Chair. Mr. Farmer's parents were the greatest Christian influence on his life. Mr. Farmer considers his own Christian influences on his wife children, their spouses, and his grandchildren to be the greatest contribution of his life. He was an avid golfer. Member of several golf organizations including HPSRS, YSGA, and the Retired Educators Group. A private graveside service will be held at Parklawn Memorial Park with Rev. Ramon Smith and Dr. Charles Edwards. A Celebration of life service will be conducted 1:00 PM Saturday, January 16, 2010 at College Park Baptist Church with Rev. Ramon Smith,Rev. Albert Leath officiating. Family will greet friends after the service in the Smith hall.
