Mrs. Freda "Grammy" Jean Sargent Lee, 75, of Winston-Salem passed away peacefully at home on May 8, 2018. Freda is survived by her two children, Mr. John "Rick" Lee (Kim Lee) of Winston Salem, NC, and Dr. Theresa Trivette (Scott Trivette) of Tampa, FL; brother, David Sargent (Ruth Sargent) of Elkton, MD, and 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Mahan Lee of Temple Hills, MD, her sister, Frances (Judd) Rushing of Manassas, VA, her brother, R.C Sargent of Gaithersburg, MD; and her parents, Shade Sargent and Bessie Sargent of Virginia.
Freda was born on March 15, 1943, in Washington, DC, to Shade Hagy Sargent and Bessie Sue Sargent. She graduated from Prince George's Community College in Largo, MD, with a degree in Arts and Science. She married John Mahan Lee on April 22, 1962.
Freda's children remember her as a dedicated mother who always encouraged them to pursue their goals and never give up their dreams. She was especially passionate about her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was caring and nurturing and always wanted to teach them to be the best they could be. She was an avid crafter, always tinkering with some project. Freda loved the outdoors and spent many years camping, fishing and hiking. She loved picnics in the park, family dinners, holiday gatherings and playing games, especially Phase 10, with her family. Her favorite place was described as "anywhere there is water"--- beach, lake or cruises--they were all perfect to her.
She was an active member of Peace Haven Baptist Church of Winston-Salem, NC. She was passionate about teaching children about God, having always taught Sunday school and vacation bible school.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, May 11, 2018, at Peace Haven Baptist Church of Winston-Salem, officiated by Rev. Nathan Parrish. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A reception will follow the service at the church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Freda's life. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the Little Georgetown Cemetery, 5370 Trapp Branch Road, Broad Run, VA 20137. Donations in her honor may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
