Fred Newell Ward

Mr. Fred Newell Ward, Sr., of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Ward was born May 28, 1931 to Cecil and Helen Ward in Mobile, Alabama. He was an Auburn University graduate and member of Sigma Pi Fraternity. Following college, he served in the US Army as a member of the Chemical Corps. Fred was retired from AT@T in 1989 after 32 years of service, while at Western Electric, he served as Dept. Chief in Military Systems Engineering, AT@T Federal Systems Dept. Chief of Submarine Sonar Engineering and Quality Engineering Manager. He was a member of Parkway Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, as an Elder, and on numerous committees. Fred also served as Stated Clerk of Presbytery (PCUSA) from 2000-2003 and as Finance Chairman for Presbyterian Synod (Mid Atlantic) for 6 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil M. Ward, Jr. Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years, Audrey Milligan Ward, Children and spouse; Frederick Ward, Jr. (Kim), Gina Handy (Mike), David Ward (Eleanor), two grandchildren; Brittany Nicole Handy, Kristina Noel Ward and a brother, John A. Ward. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The Funeral Service will be conducted 3:00 pm Sunday, September 9 at Parkway Presbyterian Church officiated by Pastor Dan Wilkers and Dr. Cecil Cave. Mr. Ward will lie in state from 2:30-3:00 prior to the service. Entombment will follow the service in the Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.
