Mr. Fred Ester Venable, 84, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Stokes Co. on February 16, 1938, the son of the late Gurney and Bessie Venable. Fred retired from Community Bank in Pilot Mountain and was a longtime member of Jessup Grove Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and then in the United States Army Reserves with a total of 32 years of service. Fred was a lifelong Ruritan serving with South Westfield and Pinnacle Ruritan Clubs. He had strong sense of community and was involved with many area events and causes. Fred was a longtime member of Ararat Masonic Lodge #558 A.F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jane Simmons Venable; two sons, Robbie Venable (Angie) and Freddie Venable; two grandchildren, Kynlee and River Venable; two sisters, Kay Collins (Bob) and Bonnie Matthews; a special sister-in-law, Lynda Winesett; and several nieces and nephews. Fred is also survived by his furry buddy, Funrow. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Jessup Grove Baptist Church in Pilot Mountain. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Mountain Valley Hospice, 1427 Edgewood Dr., Suite 101, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his special caregivers and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice.
