Fred Edward Newsome

Fred Edward Newsome, 93, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025. He was born on October 5, 1931, in Forsyth County to the late Marshall Melton Newsom and Lillie Mae Houchins Newsom. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Jeanette Moss Newsome; grandson, Jason Alexander Bianucci; stepmother, Emma Moton Newsom; and five sisters: Minnie Lou Speas, Ruth Yarbrough, Mozelle King, Margaret Hawkins, and Wilma Butner. He was also predeceased by three brothers: George Newsome, Grady Astor Newsome, and Louis Newsome. Fred is survived by his daughter, Melanie Newsome; grandson, Anthony (Tony) Edward Bianucci (Natalie Alexander) of Wilmington; brother, Douglas (Charlotte) Newsom of Glendale, AZ; and sisters-in-law, Shelby Moss (Roger) Webb, Elsie Crews Moss, and Marian Corbett Moss, of Stone Mountain, GA. Fred graduated from Old Richmond High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a devout member of the Baptist faith. Fred worked as a farmer and was employed by Hanes Hosiery. An avid rabbit hunter, he drove his beloved 1966 Ford truck for over 40 years. Fred enjoyed his Monday breakfasts at P.B. Clark’s with family and friends. A devoted grandfather, he frequently traveled to Waynesville to spend time with his family, taking a hands-on approach to grandparenting. Known for his frugality but generosity, he lived worry-free, knowing God was in control. He had a basement "man cave" where he repaired anything that was broken, always relying on his sharp mechanical mind. Fred’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 4 to 6 pm at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home 305 Bethania-Rural Hall Road, Rural Hall, NC, 27045. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 19 at 2 pm in Crestview Memorial Park, 6850 University Parkway, Rural Hall, NC,  27045. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina, PO Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361, or to a charity of your choice.
