Fred Edward Newsome, 93, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025. He was born October 5, 1931 in Forsyth County to the late Marshall Melton Newsom and Lillie Mae Houchins Newsom. In addition to his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his wife,Jeanette Moss Newsome; grandson, Jason Alexander Bianucci; step-mother Emma Moton Newsom; five sisters, Minnie Lou Speas, Ruth Yarbrough, Mozelle King, Margaret Hawkins, Wilma Butner; three brothers, George Newsome, Grady Astor Newsome, and Louis Newsome. Cherishing his memory are his daughter, Melanie Newsome; grandson, Anthony (Tony) Edward Bianucci (Natalie Alexander) of Wilmington; brother, Douglas (Charlotte) Newsom of Glendale,AZ; sisters-in-law, Shelby Moss (Roger) Webb, Elsie Crews Moss and Marian Corbett Moss of Stone Mtn., GA.

Fred graduated from Old Richmond High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was of the Baptist faith. Fred farmed and was employed by Hanes Hosiery. He was an avid rabbit hunter. He drove his new 1966 Ford truck for more than 20 years. 

Fred enjoyed Monday breakfast at P.B. Clark’s with family and friends.

He was a devoted grandad, driving to Waynesville to be a hands-on grandparent. He was thrifty but generous; worry-free knowing God is in control. He had a basement man cave where he repaired all things broken, using his sharp mechanical mind. His legacy includes

A graveside service will be conducted 2:00pm Sunday January 19, 2025 at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00pm Saturday January 18, 2024 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall.
